Is the 141 Diner closed forever?

The 141 Diner in Gateway, Colorado has closed indefinitely and the building is for rent.

When Randy and Josie opened the 141 Diner it was an immediate hit because of excellent food with that special touch only a trained chef is likely to offer. As a motorcyclist, I found the 141 Diner to be exactly the kind of place I like to visit often. Good food, friendly people and beautiful roads; what rider could want more? Business was good but perhaps not good enough as, after all, Gateway has a population of about 200 people and the next town is fifty miles in either direction. Traffic on Scenic Colorado Highway 141 is typically light. After about a year, we were sad to see Randy and Josie move on to a mountain resort community near Durango, CO. An experienced local chef continued operating the 141 Diner but apparently a family situation made this responsibility increasingly difficult. For whatever reason, the dinner has been closed often on days it was supposed to be open and now is closed indefinitely.

There has been a succession of cafes in the building that has housed the 141 Diner. Success of the 141 Diner, modest though it may have been in terms of total customer numbers, nevertheless has raised expectations. People will expect a 141 Diner to be in Gateway. There are few alternatives. The Outpost has a deli with a few good sandwiches but only two small tables indoors. The Paradox Grill is exceptionally expensive for this area while the food is not exceptionally good. Surely, someone will reopen the 141 Diner but I can say with certainty, Randy and Josie are a hard act to follow. They are missed.
